The person who was shot died on the spot. PSNI Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell said the two gunmen were believed to have escaped on foot along Suffolk Road.
The investigation is at a very early stage and I would appeal to anyone with information or anyone who was in the Suffolk Road area at the time of the shooting, saw the two men running from the club or captured dashcam footage to contact police. 101- General public can inform the matter as per call reference number 1120 02/10/22.
Paul Maskey, Sinn Féin MP for West Belfast, said the community was in shock.
"There is total shock in this community at the crime that happened at Donegal Celtic today. I don't know the man who died personally, but I do have family and my thoughts and sympathies are with this man's family at this time." Maskey urged anyone with information to contact the police. "I condemn those responsible. Guns have no place on our streets People are concerned about the presence of gunmen on the streets and I urge anyone who knows anything about this shooting to contact the police as soon as possible. We need to catch these people to protect the community and make sure nothing like this happens."
The PSNI said a section of Suffolk Road was closed and several diversions were in place. Two ambulances, a PSNI helicopter and a number of police are camping in the area.
