DUBLIN: A drone delivery service being used worldwide is set to launch in a Dublin suburb this week.
The Wing drone by Google owner Alphabet will begin trailing its service in Lusk, north Dublin on Thursday. The service has already carried out over 300,000 deliveries in the United States, Australia and Finland.
Test flights have been carried out in the area in recent days and a limited service will be available to the Lusk community tomorrow, RTE reports. Meetings have been held with the community by the company and locals had a mixed reaction to the new service.
A local resident who saw the first plane land in a field in Lusk 65 years ago said he was looking forward to seeing the drones in the sky. However, a different local homeowner expressed worry about drones colliding with one another in the skies.
Fortunately, a route can only be used by one drone firm at a time. Manna, a well-known business that currently conducts operations in Balbriggan, Dublin, and Oranmore, Galway, has flown 100,000 times.
