India: A man wanted by the police in connection with the murder of a 24-year-old woman in Cairns, Queensland has been arrested in India.
Rajwinder Singh, a Punjabi man, was arrested weeks after a $1 million reward was announced for information. In early November, the Queensland Police announced a reward of one million dollars or five crore Indian rupees for anyone who can help find Rajwinder Singh, a 38-year-old from Punjab. This is the largest amount in history.
He was wanted by police in connection with the 2018 murder of Toya Cordingley in Cairns. Toya Cordingly, who went missing on October 21, 2018, was found dead on a beach the next day.
Rajwinder Singh is believed to have escaped from Innisfail to India. Rajwinder Singh was behaving strangely before he disappeared abroad the day after Toyah Cordingley was killed. But he is not responsible for her death, his family says. Indian nurse's family says he is 'incapable of murder'.
According to the report, the 24-year-old pharmacy assistant Toyah Cordingley was killed while walking her dog on Wangti Beach around 2.30pm on Sunday. Her father Troy saw, tied up the dog and her body was found "with visible and violent injuries" buried in the soil next day. The police found the mobile phone of the Indian nurse from the premises and it can be understood that he was identified because he was found in suspicious behavior.
His car was seen on CCTV security cameras driving erratically in Cairns after the murder scene. The car was impounded hours later. But he is suspected to have returned and booked an international flight back to home. Forensic police have worked to take a DNA sample from Toyah's body - police believe the left scratch and the attack marks on her brain could help identify her killer.

The Queensland Police had informed that Rajvinder Singh, who is suspected to be related to the case, had entered India. The police announced the reward by releasing several pictures of him. The Queensland Police had taken steps to spread the word about the reward announcement in Punjab as well. The investigation was conducted with the help of Hindi and Punjabi speaking police officers.
The Queensland Police arrived in India and conducted an investigation in collaboration with the Indian government. The police have stated that Rajwinder Singh was arrested after this.
