Sussex: Nimya Mathews, (34) a staff nurse at an NHS hospital, UK, the native of Kerala state, India died while being treated in hospital after collapsing at work.
When Nimya arrived in the UK nine months ago, she was relieved that her debt woes would be over. Husband and baby joined three weeks ago, thinking everything would be fine. Nimya started working at Bexhill NHS Hospital in East Sussex at the end of January. Her husband Lijo George and her three-and-a-half-year-old son, a native of Vazhakulam, Muvattupuzha, arrived in the UK recently.
On Sunday, Nimya was admitted to the emergency department after collapsing. An expert examination revealed that it was a tumor on the head. She then underwent surgery at an NHS hospital in Brighton on Monday night. Nimya, who was in critical condition, succumbed to death on Tuesday.
