"I think there's a bigger issue involved... Frankly, we can't understand why anyone would do this, other than the exigencies of vote bank politics.

The video in question is from a June 4 parade by supporters of Khalistan in Brampton to mark the 39th anniversary of Operation Blue Star on June 6. The float was part of a five kilometer long procession

The video received a strong backlash on social media, with people condemning the pro-Khalistan parade.

On June 6, 1984, the Indian Army launched Operation Blue Star under the command of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwala at the Golden Temple in Punjab on the instructions of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The operation was aimed at addressing concerns about stockpile of weapons in the temple premises. However, it has faced considerable criticism. A few months later for this reason, on 31 October 1984, Indira Gandhi was assassinated by two of her Sikh bodyguards at her residence in New Delhi.

"Canada has encouraged separatists, terrorists and people who promote violence, which is not good for relations and not good for Canada," the minister said.
