Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to Pakistan to attend the Shanghai Summit (Shanghai Corporation Organization).
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that Jaishankar will lead the Indian delegation at the summit in Islamabad on October 15 and 16. Jaishankar's visit to Pakistan comes amid strained relations with Islamabad over the Kashmir issue and cross-border terrorism.
Pakistan had invited India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the summit. In 2020 India hosted the Shanghai Summit and Pakistan was represented by the Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs. India hosted last year.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif was present through video link. Countries like India, China, Russia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are participating in the summit.
