A Nation Bids Farewell
The day began with a solemn procession from Dr. Singh’s residence to the Congress headquarters, where party leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi, paid their last respects. A flower-adorned vehicle carried the mortal remains of the former Prime Minister to the crematorium, arriving at approximately 11:30 AM.
Amid chants of “Manmohan Singh Amar Rahe” and “Jab tak suraj chand rahega, tab tak tera naam rahega,” hundreds of Congress workers and admirers joined the procession, walking alongside the vehicle in a heartfelt tribute.
Legacy of Leadership
Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday night at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi due to age-related medical complications. He was 92. A transformative figure in Indian politics, Dr. Singh is credited with spearheading the country’s economic liberalization and serving as Prime Minister for two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2014.
Recognized globally for his contributions to India’s growth story, Dr. Singh leaves behind a legacy of reform and resilience.
National Mourning Declared
The Union Home Ministry has declared a seven-day period of national mourning in honour of the former Prime Minister. During this time, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across the country as a mark of respect.
Dr. Singh’s passing marks the end of an era, but his vision and contributions to the nation’s progress will remain etched in India’s history.
