Lebanese PM Najib Mikati Meets Syrian Leader Ahmed al-Sharaa to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, leading a ministerial delegation, held discussions with newly appointed Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa in Damascus to address critical issues impacting both nations, according to Lebanese media reports.

During the meeting, the two sides agreed to establish joint committees to tackle pressing concerns, including the situation of the 1.5 million displaced Syrians currently residing in Lebanon, as reported by Al-Arabiya.

Ahmed al-Sharaa reaffirmed his commitment to improving relations, stating, “Iran has inflicted significant damage on Syria, and Hezbollah’s actions have left deep scars. Syria will no longer serve as a conduit for Iranian weapons. Despite these challenges, we stand ready to fully cooperate with Lebanon and wish you success, particularly following the election of the Lebanese President.”

The Syrian leadership emphasized a willingness to foster closer ties and collaborate on shared challenges, marking a notable shift from the policies of the previous Syrian regime. This renewed spirit of cooperation signals a potential turning point in the historically complex relationship between the two neighbors.
