Mumbai Police apprehended Shafiqul Islam, the prime suspect in the stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, during an early morning raid on Sunday in Thane's Labour Camp area. The accused, reportedly a Bangladeshi national, had been living in India under the alias Vijay Das to evade detection.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Gedam stated, "Preliminary findings suggest the accused is a Bangladeshi national who came to India 5-6 months ago and worked in the Mumbai region under a false identity."

In a recent breakthrough, investigators discovered the second fragment of the knife used in the attack. The blade piece was recovered from the children’s room at Khan’s Bandra residence, which he shares with his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor. The recovered evidence has been sent for forensic analysis, including fingerprint examination, to aid in the ongoing investigation.
The case has raised concerns about illegal immigration and identity fraud, as the accused had seamlessly blended into the local community. Authorities are continuing their probe to uncover further details about Islam's background and motives.
