Lucknow: Acharya Satyendra Das, the chief priest of the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, passed away at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) in Lucknow. He was 83. The institute confirmed his passing in an official statement.
Acharya Satyendra Das was admitted to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the Neurology ward on February 3, a day after suffering a brain stroke. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the hospital on February 4 to inquire about his health.
A Life Dedicated to Ram Janmabhoomi
A revered spiritual leader, Acharya Satyendra Das played a pivotal role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. He was serving as the chief priest of the temple even on December 6, 1992, when the Babri Masjid was demolished. Ahead of the demolition, he relocated the idols to the nearby Fakire Mandir, and afterward, he installed them in a makeshift temple at the site.
Following the consecration ceremony of the new Ram Temple in Ayodhya, he continued to serve as its chief priest. On January 11, he celebrated the first anniversary of the Pran Pratistha ceremony, describing the event as "very beautiful."

Born into a devout family, Acharya Satyendra Das embraced the spiritual path at the age of 20, dedicating his life to religious service. He was widely respected for his knowledge, guidance, and commitment to Hindu traditions and temple affairs.
