Imphal: Manipur Police have arrested three militants from Imphal West district in a crackdown on insurgent activities, an official confirmed on Sunday.
Among those apprehended, two militants belonging to the banned United National Liberation Front (UNLF-Pambei) faction were arrested from the Narankonjil area on Saturday. According to police, they were actively involved in extortion and the illegal smuggling of arms and ammunition. Authorities also recovered a .32 pistol and ₹3,120 in cash from their possession.
In a separate operation on the same day, police arrested a militant affiliated with the outlawed People’s Liberation Army (PLA) from Kangjabi Leirak Machin area. He was reportedly engaged in extortion activities.
The arrests mark a significant step in Manipur’s ongoing efforts to curb insurgency and criminal activities, as security forces continue to intensify their operations against banned outfits in the region.
