As the Russia Ukraine war intensifies, Ukraine has reportedly launched a massive drone strike against Russia, targeting the Olenya and Belaya air bases with over 40 Russian bombers and FPV drones.
Ukraine reportedly attacked Belaya and Olenya air bases in the Irkutsk region of eastern Siberia, more than 4,000 kilometers from Ukraine. The attack was confirmed by the governor of Irkutsk.
Ukraine claims to have destroyed more than 40 Russian bombers in drone strikes.
Ukraine's security service says that "Russian bombers burned down en masse" and that a "large-scale special operation" is being conducted with the aim of destroying the bombers, and that the drone strike war was carried out by Ukraine's internal security agency, the SBU.
According to a Reuters report, sources said the drone attack downed Tu-95 and Tu-22 strategic bombers used by Russia to fire long-range missiles into Ukraine.
Ukrainian authorities reported that the attack on the country last night involved 472 drones and seven ballistic and cruise missiles, in what would be the largest Russian drone strike to date, if confirmed. Ukraine says it neutralized 385 air targets.
