Delhi Assembly Elections: Key Leaders Among Early Voters as Polling Begins

New Delhi: Voting for the Delhi Assembly elections commenced early Wednesday morning, with several prominent political leaders casting their ballots. Among the early voters were Union Ministers S. Jaishankar and Hardeep Singh Puri, alongside Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Senior leaders from various parties also participated in the early hours of polling. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Virendra Sachdeva, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, and Chief Electoral Officer R. Alice Vaz were among those who exercised their franchise.

Several key candidates were also seen at the polling booths soon after voting commenced at 7 AM. AAP's Greater Kailash candidate Saurabh Bharadwaj, BJP's Karawal Nagar candidate Kapil Mishra, and Congress candidates Sandeep Dikshit (New Delhi) and Alka Lamba (Kalkaji) were among them.

Delhi has approximately 1.56 crore eligible voters, with the election witnessing a three-way contest between the incumbent AAP, the BJP, and the Congress. While AAP seeks a third consecutive term in office, both BJP and Congress are aiming for a resurgence in the capital’s political landscape.

Polling is underway across 13,766 stations spread over Delhi’s 70 assembly constituencies, determining the fate of 699 candidates. The election results are scheduled to be announced on February 8.
