Gandhinagar, Gujarat – February 14, 2025 – Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Gujarat Engineering Research Institute (GERI), Vadodara, has played a pivotal role in enhancing the construction sector across the state.
According to a statement from the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), over 6.14 lakh construction material samples have been tested since 2021-22, significantly contributing to infrastructure development. Water Resources and Water Supply Minister Kunvarji Bavaliya highlighted that these tests have generated revenue exceeding ₹184 crore for the state government.
Extensive Testing and Revenue Growth
Providing further insights, Minister Kunvarji Bavaliya stated:
- In 2021-22, over 1.03 lakh samples were tested, generating ₹30 crore in revenue.
- In 2022-23, testing increased to 1.33 lakh samples, yielding ₹42.74 crore.
- In 2023-24, the number rose further to 1.87 lakh samples, bringing in ₹53.93 crore.
- By January 2024-25, approximately 1.90 lakh samples had been tested, generating ₹57.46 crore.
Overall, more than 6.14 lakh tests have been conducted, bringing total revenue beyond ₹184 crore.
Modern Equipment Enhancing Testing Capabilities
Minister of State for Water Resources and Water Supply, Mukesh Patel, emphasized that GERI has leveraged modern equipment and skilled human resources to conduct 9,228 tests over the last three years (2021-22 to 2023-24), focusing on soil testing, concrete mix design, and asphalt mix design.
A notable increase was observed in soil testing, which tripled from 831 tests in 2022-23 to 2,646 tests in 2023-24. This rise underscores the state government’s commitment to high-quality infrastructure for both public and private construction projects.
Statewide Network of Advanced Laboratories
To ensure scientific and timely testing, 24 advanced laboratories have been established across Gujarat, including the headquarters in Vadodara. These laboratories, operating under GERI, play a crucial role in maintaining construction quality and ensuring the durability and lifespan of public infrastructure.
Minister Mukesh Patel reiterated that Gujarat remains at the forefront of quality assurance in construction, setting a benchmark for scientific material testing in public and private sector projects.
