Jharkhand Health Minister Criticizes Centre Over Healthcare Neglect, Announces Measures to Strengthen State’s Medical Infrastructure

Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], February 28: Jharkhand Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari has strongly criticized the central government for neglecting the state’s healthcare needs, citing a severe shortage of medical colleges, doctors, paramedical staff, and nurses.

Addressing the media, Dr. Ansari stated, “It is a fact that Jharkhand is facing an acute shortage of medical professionals and healthcare institutions. The central government has completely overlooked the state’s needs. I have formally reached out to them and requested financial assistance, but it is evident that funds are being disproportionately allocated to BJP-ruled states.”

Emphasizing the state’s pressing healthcare challenges, he remarked, “Jharkhand is a resource-rich yet economically struggling state. While the Centre benefits from our resources, it fails to extend the necessary financial support for healthcare improvements.”

Despite these challenges, Dr. Ansari assured the public of the state government’s commitment to addressing the crisis. “We may have limited financial resources, but we will not let our people suffer. Our government is actively working on building hospitals and strengthening healthcare infrastructure to bridge the existing gaps,” he affirmed.

In an effort to address the shortage of healthcare professionals, Dr. Ansari announced plans to establish additional nursing colleges. “We are taking steps to enhance medical education in Jharkhand. This includes increasing the number of nursing colleges and simplifying regulatory processes to encourage the establishment of new institutions in the education sector,” he stated.

Responding to concerns about the state’s expenditure during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Ansari asserted that the central government had provided only half of the required funds. Defending the state’s crisis management, he said, “During the pandemic, our foremost priority was to save lives. The then-health minister and our administration did commendable work in ensuring that critical care was delivered effectively. Had we focused solely on bureaucratic formalities, countless lives could have been lost.”

Dr. Ansari further highlighted the government’s focus on expanding medical education to strengthen the healthcare system. “We are working towards increasing the number of medical college seats for both MBBS and postgraduate programs, along with expanding nursing staff in the state,” he added.

The Jharkhand government’s efforts reflect a determined approach to overcoming healthcare challenges, despite financial constraints, with a strong emphasis on self-reliance and infrastructural development.
