JAMMU: Pakistani forces breached the ceasefire on Wednesday, initiating unprovoked firing on Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army responded decisively, inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy, security officials reported. However, the extent of damage on the Pakistani side remains unverified, and the Indian Army has neither confirmed nor denied these claims.
This latest ceasefire violation in the Krishna Ghati sector occurred a day after two Indian Army personnel, including a captain, were killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion triggered by suspected terrorists near the LoC in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu district. Pakistani forces suffered significant losses following the Indian Army’s robust retaliation.
Escalating Tensions Along the LoC
The situation along the LoC has escalated due to increased hostilities from across the border. This incident marks the first ceasefire violation of the year and the fourth cross-border skirmish within five days. On Monday, a soldier was shot while manning a forward post in the Kalal area of Nowshera sector, Rajouri district.
Additionally, on February 8, an Army patrol was ambushed by terrorists firing from a forested area across the LoC in Rajouri’s Keri sector, suggesting a planned infiltration attempt. Earlier, on the night of February 4-5, a landmine explosion reportedly caused casualties among terrorists attempting to cross into India from the Krishna Ghati sector.
Security Measures and Military Response
A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army sustained minor injuries after stepping on a landmine in the Krishna Ghati sector while on patrol to prevent infiltration attempts. The injured officer, a native of Mendhar, was swiftly evacuated to a military hospital for treatment.
On February 10, Lieutenant General Navin Sachdeva, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Jammu-based White Knight Corps, reviewed security conditions along the LoC in Rajouri district. Accompanied by GOCs of the Ace of Spades and Crossed Swords divisions, he visited forward areas to assess operational preparedness and monitor hostile activities.
Military Leadership’s Call for Vigilance
The White Knight Corps shared on social media that their commander commended all ranks for their vigilance and operational focus, urging them to remain prepared for any eventualities. The Indian Army’s emphasis on readiness underscores ongoing security challenges along the volatile LoC.
These recent incidents highlight persistent threats faced by security forces along the border. With rising hostilities and infiltration attempts, maintaining heightened vigilance remains imperative for safeguarding national security in this sensitive region.
