Previous Incident: Sukhbir Badal's Assassination Attempt
This clash comes months after a high-profile attack at the Golden Temple in December 2024. Former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal survived an assassination attempt while performing sewa (service) as an act of penance for alleged missteps during the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) rule from 2007 to 2017.
The assailant, Narain Singh Chaura, had previously been named as the mastermind behind the 2004 Burail jailbreak in Chandigarh and was wanted in multiple terror-related cases. He was overpowered and arrested after narrowly missing his target when a volunteer intervened as he fired.
Authorities continue to investigate the latest incident at the Golden Temple to determine the motives and circumstances surrounding the attack.
