Mohali, March 12: In a shocking incident, a scientist from the esteemed Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Abhishek Swarnkar, lost his life on Tuesday following an alleged assault by his neighbor over a parking dispute in Sector 67, Mohali.
Swarnkar, a native of West Bengal, had recently undergone a kidney transplant and was undergoing dialysis. He resided in a rented house in Mohali, where the altercation occurred. His family has accused Monty, an IT professional, of brutally attacking him, despite being aware of his fragile health condition. The entire incident was reportedly captured on CCTV footage.
Authorities have confirmed that an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, and legal action will follow based on the findings.
Notably, IISER acknowledged Swarnkar’s contributions to scientific research, highlighting that his work had been published in the Journal of Science, which played a significant role in securing his position at the institute.
Expressing deep sorrow over his untimely demise, IISER stated, “We have lost a brilliant mind. Such an act of violence is unacceptable, and strict action should be taken against the accused.”
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
