The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to resume its Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) operations on March 15, 2025. This phase involves the planned separation and subsequent re-docking of the Chaser and Target satellites, a critical step toward advancing technologies for upcoming missions such as Chandrayaan-4 and the Bharat Antariksha Station.
Launched on December 30, 2024, the SpaDeX mission successfully achieved its initial docking on January 16, 2025. The unified satellite system currently maintains an elliptical orbit, offering a 10-15 day window every two months to conduct various experiments. ISRO is presently engaged in simulation exercises to prepare for the forthcoming separation and re-docking maneuvers, with actual experiments scheduled to commence from March 15.
Mastering docking technologies is pivotal for ISRO's future endeavors, including the development of an indigenous space station and complex lunar missions. The SpaDeX mission serves as a foundational platform to validate these critical technologies, underscoring India's commitment to advancing its capabilities in space exploration.
