Hours after a tense exchange with former U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sought to strike a conciliatory tone. Speaking to Fox News on Friday, February 28, Zelensky expressed confidence that his relationship with Trump could be repaired, stating, "Of course." However, he made it clear that he did not feel an apology to the former U.S. leader was necessary.
Acknowledging the critical role of Washington’s support, Zelensky voiced hope that Trump would take a stronger stance in favor of Ukraine over Russian President Vladimir Putin in any negotiations aimed at ending the war. The conflict, sparked by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine three years ago, remains a focal point of geopolitical tensions.
"It Will Be Difficult Without U.S. Support"
The Ukrainian president emphasized that continued American aid is essential for Ukraine’s ability to resist Russian aggression. His remarks came just hours after Trump, speaking from the Oval Office, warned that the U.S. might "abandon" Ukraine unless it agreed to a ceasefire.
"It will be difficult without your support," Zelensky stated during the interview. "But we cannot lose our values, our people. We cannot lose our freedom." Reaffirming Ukraine’s commitment to its partnership with the United States, he underscored the nation’s determination to maintain international backing in its struggle against Russia.
