Man Injured in Homemade Pipe Bomb Explosion in Tallaght

 TALLAGHT, DUBLIN - A man in his 50s is undergoing surgery at Tallaght Hospital after severely injuring himself with a homemade pipe bomb that exploded at a residence in the Killinarden area of Tallaght earlier today, March 27, 2025.


Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene this morning following reports of an explosion. Upon arrival, they discovered the man with serious injuries caused by the detonation of the pipe bomb. Authorities have indicated that the man, who is not well known to gardaí, may lose more of his arm due to the extent of the damage sustained in the blast.

In an official statement, gardaí confirmed they are currently investigating the incident: "Gardaí are currently at the scene of an explosion that occurred at a residence in Tallaght. A man, aged in his 50s, has been removed from the scene to Tallaght Hospital to be treated for injuries believed to be serious but non-life threatening." The statement further noted that "The Army EOD Unit and the Garda Technical Bureau are currently examining the scene" to determine the circumstances surrounding the explosion.
