Rajasthan Hospital Faces Allegations of Mistaken Surgery on Paralyzed Patient

Kota, Rajasthan: A concerning incident has emerged from Kota Medical College in Rajasthan, where a patient, Manish, has alleged that medical professionals mistakenly performed surgery on his paralyzed father instead of him.

Manish, who sustained injuries in an accident, was admitted to the medical college and scheduled for surgery on Saturday. He had requested his paralyzed father to be present for support. According to Manish's account, while he was admitted and prepared for the surgical procedure, his father waited outside the operating theater. It was during this time that the alleged error occurred.

"I met with an accident and got injured. Since there's no one else to help, I called my father, who is paralyzed, to be with me," Manish stated. "My surgery was scheduled for Saturday, so I asked him to sit and wait outside the operation theatre. I was inside the OT—I don't know what happened, but now my father has 5-6 stitches on him."

The distressed patient further indicated his inability to recall the name of the doctor involved in the alleged erroneous procedure. "I don't remember the name of the doctor who operated on me. I am also lying around in this condition. What can I do?" he expressed.

In response to these serious allegations, the principal of Kota Medical College Hospital, Dr. Sangeeta Saxena, has instructed the superintendent to establish a committee to investigate the incident. "I have asked the superintendent to form a committee and submit a report within 2-3 days. They have formed a three-member committee... They will inquire and inform what happened," Dr. Saxena stated, indicating the hospital's intent to review the circumstances surrounding this claim.

The formation of this committee suggests an internal inquiry into the alleged medical error. The findings of this investigation will be crucial in understanding the sequence of events and determining the appropriate course of action. This incident raises significant concerns regarding patient safety and procedural protocols within the medical institution.
