Kerala Mourns Loss of Nurse Ranjitha G Nair, Victim of Air India AI171 Crash

The mortal remains of Ranjitha G Nair, a 40-year-old nurse from Kerala who tragically lost her life in the Air India AI171 crash in Ahmedabad, were brought back to her native state on Tuesday. The ill-fated Boeing 787 flight, bound for London, crashed into the hostel block of BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad shortly after take-off on June 12, claiming 270 lives.

Nair, a resident of Pullad in Pathanamthitta district, had been on a brief visit to Kerala to complete formalities for rejoining the state health department. She was returning to London, where she worked as a nurse in the United Kingdom's healthcare system, when the tragedy struck.

Her identity was confirmed 11 days after the crash through DNA analysis conducted by authorities in Ahmedabad.

Early Tuesday morning, Nair's mortal remains arrived at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport and were then transported by road to her hometown. A public tribute was held at Sree Vivekananda High School, where she was a former student. State ministers V. Sivankutty and V.N. Vasavan, along with community members, paid their final respects.

The funeral and cremation were scheduled for 4:00 PM at her family residence in Pullad.

Ranjitha Nair is survived by her mother and two young children. Family members recalled her as a devoted professional and loving mother, with dreams of completing the construction of a new family home—an aspiration that symbolized her hard work and perseverance.

Her passing has left a deep void among loved ones, colleagues, and the larger community she served both in Kerala and abroad.
