Patna: Fresh CCTV footage has surfaced in the Paras Hospital shooting incident, capturing two assailants near the hospital on a motorcycle, with one of them openly brandishing a firearm. The footage, recorded just outside the hospital premises, has provided crucial leads and further intensified the ongoing investigation into the broad daylight attack that claimed the life of a parolee.
The police are closely analysing the footage frame by frame to identify the shooters and trace their escape route. The incident, which occurred on Thursday morning, has raised serious questions about public safety and the growing audacity of criminal networks operating within the city.
According to authorities, the assailants targeted Chandan Mishra, a resident of Buxar district, who was out on parole and admitted to Paras HMRI Hospital for medical treatment. Mishra, a murder accused with multiple cases registered against him, was gunned down inside the hospital lobby by a group of five armed men. While one of the attackers has since been apprehended, others have reportedly been identified and are being actively pursued.
Initial findings suggest that the suspects may have ties to a local real estate syndicate and have prior involvement in organised criminal activity. A now widely circulated video from inside the hospital shows the assailants entering the premises with weapons drawn, firing at the victim, and fleeing the scene within moments. Fortunately, no other casualties were reported in the incident.
Speaking on the case, Patna SSP Kartikeya K. Sharma stated, “Chandan was on parole and had been admitted to Paras Hospital for treatment. He was shot by members of a rival gang. We are in the process of identifying all the attackers and already have photographs of the suspects.”
This targeted killing follows closely on the heels of another violent episode in Patna’s Ranitalab area, where a suspect named Suraj Kumar was injured in an encounter after allegedly attempting to escape police custody. The back-to-back incidents have cast a spotlight on escalating gang rivalries and the troubling spike in street violence across Bihar’s capital.
Authorities have assured heightened security measures and intensified crackdowns on organised crime to restore public confidence.
