Kanpur Horror: 14-Year-Old Girl Gang-Raped and Blackmailed; One Juvenile Detained

Kanpur | July 6, 2025 — A 14-year-old girl from Kanpur's Maharajpur area was allegedly gang-raped and blackmailed in a horrifying incident that has once again highlighted the growing menace of digital exploitation and crimes against minors in India.

The incident, which occurred on July 26, came to light after the survivor approached the Maharajpur police station, narrating her ordeal. She alleged that while spending time with a male friend in a secluded area near a school boundary wall, the two were secretly filmed by two individuals. The accused reportedly demanded ₹7,000 to prevent the video from being leaked online.

Victim Abandoned, Assaulted After Blackmail Attempt

According to the complaint, when the girl’s companion tried to negotiate, the accused insisted on cash and began harassing the girl. Overwhelmed by fear, the boy fled the scene, leaving the minor girl alone. The two accused then allegedly physically assaulted and gang-raped her. She lost consciousness during the assault, after which the perpetrators fled.

Police Launch Probe, One Juvenile Detained

The survivor immediately reported the incident to police. Acting swiftly, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Anjali Vishwakarma and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sadar) Abhishek Pandey inspected the crime scene. Based on the girl’s account, a 15-year-old boy—believed to have been selling corn nearby—was identified and taken into custody.

His role in the crime is currently under investigation, and further details are awaited.

Legal and Medical Action Underway

Authorities confirmed that:

The survivor’s medical examination has been completed
Her statement will be recorded under Section 164 of the CrPC in the presence of a magistrate
Charges under the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act are being prepared

Police have not ruled out the involvement of more individuals and are actively pursuing leads to identify any other suspects.
