Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh – At least six people were killed and one sustained serious injuries after a car collided head-on with a truck in the early hours of Friday near Chirchari village, under Baghnadi police station limits, officials said.
The accident occurred around 5:30 a.m. when a group of seven friends, aged between 25 and 34, were travelling from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, to Puri, Odisha, after a stopover in Ujjain. According to Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg, the victims were passing through Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district when the crash occurred.
Preliminary investigations suggest the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to veer into the opposite lane and collide with an oncoming truck. Five passengers died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries in a nearby hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Akash Maurya (28), Govind (33), Aman Rathore (26), and Nitin Yadav (34) — all residents of Madhya Pradesh — and Sangram Kesari from Odisha. The car’s driver remains hospitalised at the district medical college with serious injuries.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
