New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially imposed a fine on India captain Suryakumar Yadav following remarks he made after India’s match against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025.
After the high-profile encounter, Suryakumar Yadav commented on the India-Pakistan military tensions, sparking widespread discussion and debate. The ICC has now levied a penalty of 30% of his match fee for the statement.
During a post-match interaction, players from both teams left the field without the customary handshake. When a journalist asked whether this was contrary to the spirit of the game, Yadav responded that beyond sportsmanship, he felt it was important to stand in solidarity with the families of the victims of the Pahalgam attack.
The ICC’s action underscores its policy on player conduct, particularly regarding statements on political or military matters during international tournaments.
