CHENNAI: DMDK general secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth on Sunday accused the AIADMK of reneging on its promise to allot a Rajya Sabha seat to her party. Addressing party functionaries in Chennai, she said AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami had “let the DMDK down.”
According to party insiders, Premalatha recalled that she had trusted Palaniswami to honor his word, given in his capacity as chief minister, but alleged that the commitment was not fulfilled. “During the eras of M.G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa, such assurances were respected. Today, the DMDK is left disappointed,” a functionary quoted her as saying.
Premalatha further stated that going forward, including in the 2026 elections, the DMDK would insist on having all alliance commitments recorded in writing to avoid ambiguity.
At a press interaction, she also took a swipe at political rivals, including the AIADMK, alleging that crowds for party meetings were being assembled through cash inducements.
