The remnants of Hurricane Humberto may influence weather conditions in Ireland towards the end of this week and into the weekend. Humberto, officially a Category 5 hurricane, has triggered warnings from the US National Hurricane Center for the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, and parts of the US east coast. Over the coming days, it is expected to track northwestward across the Atlantic Ocean.
Met Éireann has cautioned that Humberto’s presence introduces “a good deal of uncertainty” into the forecast. Current predictions indicate unsettled conditions with heavy rainfall from Tuesday onwards. The full extent of Humberto’s impact on Ireland is unlikely to be clear until the end of next week.
Meteorologist Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather noted on X on Saturday night that Humberto “needs watching” for its potential to influence Irish weather in about a week’s time. Even without Humberto’s direct effects, Ireland is expected to return to the wet and windy conditions that were common in early September, before a brief period of relief.
After relatively mild conditions on Sunday and Monday, Met Éireann forecasts “frequent rainfall” from Tuesday, especially across the west and north. Temperatures will remain slightly above seasonal averages, with mild but breezy conditions continuing until at least next weekend.
