Palwal, Haryana — In a tragic incident on Monday afternoon, two minor brothers were killed and a third critically injured after being hit by a speeding car allegedly driven by a policeman under the influence of alcohol.
The victims have been identified as Mohammad Ayan (13) and his younger brother Mohammad Ahsaan (9). Their brother, Mohammad Arjaan (7), sustained severe injuries and is undergoing treatment. The accident occurred around 2 p.m. when the children were returning home from school with their grandfather, Aas Mohammad.
According to reports, the vehicle was being driven by Narender Singh, a head constable posted as a reader in the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Nuh. Singh, who was in uniform at the time of the incident, was reportedly driving his newly purchased car toward his native village, Pahad, about 10 kilometers from the accident site.
Eyewitnesses said the car veered onto the dusty sidewalk before striking the children. Locals apprehended Singh on the spot and handed him over to the police. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Hathin) Mohinder Singh confirmed the arrest, adding that a medical examination is pending but prima facie the driver appeared intoxicated.
Recounting the horror, the children’s grandfather said: “We were walking on the extreme left of the road. The children were ahead of me when the speeding car suddenly came from behind and hit them. It was so fast that two of my grandchildren were flung into the air for several feet. I froze as the incident unfolded before me.”
Both Ayan and Ahsaan were rushed to hospital but declared dead on arrival. Their younger brother remains in critical condition.
An FIR has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
