Tejashwi Yadav Promises Double Allowances and ₹50 Lakh Insurance for Panchayat Leaders

As Bihar prepares for its upcoming Assembly elections, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has announced a significant set of promises aimed at strengthening the state’s Panchayati Raj institutions.

Addressing a press conference, Yadav — speaking on behalf of the Opposition’s INDIA bloc — pledged to double the allowances of all Panchayat representatives if the alliance is voted to power. In addition, he announced that Panchayat leaders would be provided with a pension scheme and an insurance cover worth ₹50 lakh, underscoring the bloc’s commitment to empowering grassroots governance and rural leadership.

Taking a direct swipe at the ruling NDA government, Yadav described it as “visionless” and “corrupt,” alleging that funds meant for Bihar were being diverted to Gujarat. “The campaign has begun, and Bihar is ready for change,” he asserted. “People are tired of this corrupt and directionless government. Even in the Budget, the money that belongs to Bihar has been spent in Gujarat.”

The Bihar Legislative Assembly elections are scheduled to take place in two phases, on November 6 and November 11, with the counting of votes slated for November 14.
