Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A video showing the Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) of Chhatarpur Municipal Council and a BJP leader engaging in a heated exchange over roadside garbage has gone viral on social media.
The footage captures CMO Shailendra Singh instructing sanitation workers to collect garbage dumped near the residence of BJP leader Mahesh Rai and deposit it inside his courtyard.
According to reports, discarded sweet boxes, detergent packets, and paper waste were found strewn near Rai’s residence in Harpalpur, Chhatarpur district. Upon inspection, the CMO reportedly noticed the litter and ordered municipal workers to remove the garbage from the roadside and deposit it inside the BJP leader’s premises.
In the viral video, Singh can be heard instructing the staff, “Daalo, inka kachra ghar ke andar daalo, poora kachra andar daalo” (Throw it inside his house, put all the garbage inside).
Responding to the official’s remarks, Rai can be heard saying, “Haan, haan, aap ghar mein dalwayi kachra… aap log khud to vyavastha karte nahi hain” (Yes, go ahead and dump it at my house… you officials don’t make proper arrangements anyway).
The video has sparked a wave of reactions online, with many netizens praising CMO Shailendra Singh for his bold action. One Instagram user commented, “Respect!” while another wrote, “Maintaining cleanliness is everyone’s responsibility.” A third comment read, “Just because he’s a politician doesn’t mean he can dump garbage on the streets.”
Meanwhile, BJP leader Mahesh Rai has filed a complaint at the local police station, submitting CCTV footage as evidence and demanding disciplinary action against the CMO.
The incident has reignited debate over civic responsibility and political accountability in maintaining public hygiene, with citizens applauding the municipal officer’s firm stand against negligence—even when it involves a political figure.
