Waterford, Ireland: Winterval — Ireland’s largest Christmas festival and designated European City of Christmas — is set to elevate festive celebrations this year with Ireland’s biggest-ever drone show. On Saturday, November 22 at 7:00 PM, a dazzling fleet of 150 illuminated drones will light up the night sky over the River Suir, offering a free, open-air spectacle of colour, movement, and festive wonder.
The Winterval Sky Spectacular Drone Show will feature a series of choreographed formations — from swirling snowflakes to twinkling stars and other holiday-themed shapes — all synchronized to a heartwarming musical score that embodies the spirit of Christmas. The display will be best viewed from Waterford’s quayside, promising an unforgettable experience for families, visitors, and drone enthusiasts alike.

Running from November 21 to December 23, 2025, Winterval will transform Waterford into a festive wonderland featuring over 50 attractions and events designed to create cherished family memories.
Among the highlights are the Winterval Christmas Markets, where over 100,000 twinkling lights illuminate the streets and stalls overflow with seasonal treats, handcrafted gifts, and live entertainment. The Winterval Circus will feature acrobats, clowns, and holiday performances guaranteed to captivate audiences of all ages.
Visitors can also explore Santa’s Grotto, located in the enchanting 12th-century caverns beneath Waterford’s Medieval Museum, offering a sensory-friendly environment for children to meet Santa and share their Christmas wishes. Nearby, the Glow Fairylight Garden provides a serene illuminated escape, perfect for family photos and quiet reflection, while the Winterval Fairground offers classic rides and nostalgic fun for both the young and the young at heart.
For a breathtaking view of Waterford’s festive glow, the Winterval Cruise along the River Suir offers a unique perspective of the city’s twinkling lights.
New for 2025, the Snowball Play Fun Zone introduces an indoor inflatable snowball dome for playful family snowball fights, while Gingerbread Making Workshops invite visitors to bake and decorate their own seasonal treats. In Cathedral Square, Winterval Illuminates will present a nightly light projection show, transforming the façade of Santa’s Grotto with vibrant animation, music, and special effects.
