RIYADH — Three people were slightly injured in attacks on two airports in southern Saudi Arabia, the country’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said. The attacks targeted airports in Jazan and Najran and also caused some damage to airport facilities. The injured were taken to hospital for treatment.
The attacks targeted King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Jazan and Najran International Airport. Emergency teams and other authorities responded immediately after the incidents, while officials began checking the damage and the safety of the airport facilities.
The attacks came as fighting between Yemen’s Houthi group and Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces has intensified. The Houthis have said they targeted several sites in southern Saudi Arabia, including airports and military facilities. Saudi authorities said security measures were being taken to protect passengers and airport staff.
Saudi aviation authorities said they are working with security agencies to assess the damage and maintain the safety of the country’s civil aviation system. Further details on the attacks and their impact are still being assessed.
