Alappuzha, November 3, 2025 — Grief has struck the Alappuzha community following the untimely death of Joby Kurian (40), a native of Thathampally and a nurse based in Germany. Joby suffered a brain hemorrhage that led to brain death, but in a remarkable act of compassion, his wife and family decided to donate his organs, giving new life to several people in need.
Tragic Incident in Germany
Joby, who had been serving as a nurse in Germany, was found collapsed in his bathroom early yesterday morning. His daughter immediately alerted a nearby Malayali family, who rushed to the scene, administered CPR, and arranged for emergency medical assistance. Despite their best efforts and intensive treatment at the hospital, doctors confirmed that Joby had suffered an irreparable rupture in a brain artery, resulting in brain death.
A Gift of Life Amid Grief
Even in the face of immense sorrow, Joby’s family chose to honor his memory through organ donation, ensuring that his legacy lives on by saving multiple lives.
“Though he has departed, many will continue to live through him,” wrote friends and well-wishers on social media, where the family’s decision has been met with deep respect and admiration.
A Life of Kindness and Service
Joby was known not only for his professional dedication but also for his vibrant involvement in music, charity, and community service. During his studies at Ruhi School of Nursing, he gained recognition for his singing talent and warm personality. Friends remember him as a man who “never made enemies and always carried a smile.”
He was also an active member of the Iritty Gramadeepam Facebook collective, participating in several humanitarian initiatives. His friends say that even in death, Joby continued his life’s mission of compassion and giving.
“If heaven has a place for those who serve others selflessly, Joby surely belongs there,” one close friend remarked.
Joby’s mortal remains are currently at a hospital in Germany. Friends and well-wishers have come together in prayer, seeking strength for his wife and family during this heartbreaking time.
