Dublin, November 3, 2025 — Homeowners across Ireland are being urged to act swiftly to avoid penalties of up to €3,000 for failing to meet the Local Property Tax (LPT) filing deadline, which falls on Friday, November 7.
The Revenue Commissioners have confirmed that penalties will be imposed on property owners who do not file their 2026 LPT return on time. Despite several reminders, more than one million property owners have yet to complete the mandatory process.
Three Key Steps for Property Owners
To remain compliant, homeowners must:
- Determine the valuation band of their property as of November 1, 2025.
- Submit their LPT return, including the correct valuation band, by Friday, November 7, 2025.
- Pay or make payment arrangements for the 2026 LPT charge.
Revenue Urges Action Before Deadline
Katie Clair, Manager of Revenue’s LPT Branch, said the level of compliance so far has been “encouraging,” with over 550,000 returns filed. However, she appealed to remaining property owners to act without delay.
“I urge any property owner who has not yet considered their LPT for 2026 to do so now,” Clair said. “When submitting your return, you’ll be asked to arrange payment for your 2026 LPT charge. There are multiple payment options available, allowing homeowners to choose what suits them best.”
Penalties and Recovery Measures
Failure to submit an LPT return could result in a €3,000 fine, according to a Galway Beo report. Revenue also retains the authority to recover unpaid taxes by directing employers to deduct the charge directly from wages or by offsetting it against social welfare or pension payments.
Online Filing and System Updates
The simplest way to complete an LPT return is through the LPT online portal, accessible via myAccount or Revenue Online Service (ROS).
Revenue has reassured users that the system remains stable, despite minor technical issues reported earlier this week. These were swiftly resolved through a system update implemented today.
“The number of returns filed in recent days demonstrates that there are no widespread issues with the LPT portal,” Clair added. “We understand the frustration individual taxpayers may experience when encountering difficulties, and our teams are on hand to assist.”
With just days left before the filing deadline, Revenue’s message is clear: homeowners who have not yet submitted their LPT returns should do so immediately to avoid financial penalties and enforcement actions.
