PM Modi Urges Opposition to ‘Rise Above Defeat’ as Winter Session Begins

New Delhi: Ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a strong appeal to the Opposition, urging them to rise above the “frustration of defeat” and contribute responsibly to national progress.

Speaking to the media outside Parliament before the commencement of the sixth session of the 18th Lok Sabha and the 269th session of the Rajya Sabha, the Prime Minister stressed that the upcoming session should not become a platform for political theatrics, but rather one for meaningful and constructive debate.

“This Winter Session is not a mere formality. It will provide fresh momentum to our efforts to accelerate the nation’s development,” he said.

 ‘Unable to Digest Defeat’

Launching a direct critique at the Opposition, Prime Minister Modi referenced recent election outcomes.
“They are uncomfortable with their defeat; they are in a state where they are unable to digest it. Defeat should not become an excuse for disruptions in Parliament. At the same time, victory must not lead to arrogance,” he said.

Modi added that he had heard statements from certain parties that suggested they were unwilling to accept the election results. “Their remarks clearly show how deeply they are troubled by their loss. They must come out of this frustration,” he urged.

He emphasized that the conduct inside the House should reflect what the nation expects from its leaders, reminding that the world is closely observing the strength of India’s democracy and its growing economic influence.

 Bihar Elections & Democratic Vibrancy

Referring to the recently concluded elections in Bihar, the Prime Minister highlighted the strong voter turnout.
“The elections and polling in Bihar demonstrate the strength of our democracy. The increased participation of women gives us renewed hope,” he said, calling for parliamentary behaviour that matches this growing public confidence.

Key Bills to be Introduced Today

Issuing a stern warning to parties planning disruptive protests instead of engaging in debate, Modi remarked:
“There is plenty of space for theatrics elsewhere. Those who wish to perform may continue doing so. But what matters here is results. You have already been defeated—if you wish to lose further, go ahead and speak where you must.”

He once again urged the Opposition to present their arguments through proper debate and discussion.

When the session begins at 11 a.m., Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will introduce key legislations including:

  • The Central Excise (Amendment) Bill, 2025

  • The Health Security and National Security Cess Bill, 2025

  • The Manipur GST (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025

A total of 13 bills have been listed for consideration during this Winter Session, which will open with obituary references.
