INDIANAPOLIS – A 37-year-old woman has been taken into custody in Indianapolis, Indiana, following a harrowing incident involving the attempted murder of a one-year-old child and the sexual assault of a minor.
The suspect, identified as Kendra Leigh Proctor, allegedly confessed to authorities that her actions were part of an attempted ritual sacrifice.
The disturbing events unfolded last Sunday evening. According to police reports, Proctor attempted to suffocate the infant by sitting on the child's face. The act was interrupted by another woman present in the home, who became suspicious of Proctor’s erratic behavior while they were watching a movie. Upon investigating the room, the witness discovered the life-threatening assault in progress, intervened immediately, and alerted law enforcement.
The subsequent investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department revealed further atrocities. Authorities discovered that Proctor had also been sexually abusing and threatening a minor girl residing in the same household. During interrogation, Proctor’s statements were reportedly inconsistent; while she initially cited financial gain and sexual deviance as motives, she later claimed the primary objective was to "sacrifice" the infant.
Law enforcement officials have indicated that Proctor may be suffering from schizophrenia, a severe mental health disorder, which could have influenced her actions. She has been formally charged with attempted murder and child molestation. If convicted on all counts, she faces up to 40 years in prison and a fine of $10,000.
Medical examiners confirmed that the infant underwent a thorough evaluation and is currently in stable condition. Proctor remains in custody pending her trial, which is scheduled to commence on January 21.
