Trump Claims Credit for Preventing India–Pakistan War at Davos WEF

Davos, Switzerland: US President Donald Trump has claimed that his diplomatic intervention helped prevent a major military conflict between India and Pakistan, asserting that his efforts saved between 10 and 20 million lives.

Trump made the remarks while addressing the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif present on the stage.

Trump said he was proud of having played a key role in de-escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, adding that Sharif’s public acknowledgment of his role served as a significant validation of his efforts. He described the outcome as one of his major foreign policy achievements.

India–Pakistan Crisis and Trump’s Claims

Referring to the crisis that followed the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir last May, which killed 26 tourists, Trump said the region had come close to war after India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response. He claimed that his timely intervention helped calm the situation at a critical moment.

Trump further stated that during the first nine months of his second term, he had helped resolve eight major global conflicts, making the world “safer and more peaceful” than before.

Launch of ‘Board of Peace’

At the forum, Trump announced the formation of a new international body called the ‘Board of Peace’, aimed at promoting global stability and conflict resolution. He said several world leaders, including Shehbaz Sharif, had signed its charter.

In addition to the India–Pakistan issue, Trump claimed credit for easing tensions or resolving disputes involving Israel and Iran, Kosovo and Serbia, Cambodia and Thailand, and the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.

Gaza, Lebanon, and Criticism of the UN

Trump said the newly formed body would also oversee the reconstruction of war-ravaged Gaza and work to ensure long-term peace in the region. He added that once Gaza is demilitarised and rebuilt, his next priority would be addressing issues related to Hezbollah in Lebanon.

During his speech, Trump sharply criticised the United Nations, arguing that despite its vast potential, the organisation often remains ineffective. He suggested that smaller, action-oriented international bodies could respond more efficiently to global conflicts.

Citing the ongoing Russia–Ukraine war, Trump noted that nearly 29,000 soldiers were killed in the past month alone, reiterating that preventing wars and saving lives remains his top priority.
