PM Modi Congratulates Nitin Nabin on Taking Charge as BJP President, Signals Generational Shift

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Nitin Nabin on assuming charge as the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), describing the moment as a reaffirmation of the party’s worker-centric ethos.

“I congratulate Nitin Nabin for becoming the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the world’s largest political party. I thank all former presidents for their contribution to strengthening the party,” the Prime Minister said. In a remark underscoring organisational humility, Modi added, “I am a karyakarta, and Nitin Nabin is my boss now.”

Nabin formally took over the reins of the BJP on Tuesday, succeeding Union Minister J.P. Nadda. At 45, he becomes the youngest national president in the party’s history and its 12th overall chief. His elevation is widely seen as a signal of the BJP’s renewed emphasis on organisational consolidation and generational transition ahead of key state elections scheduled later this year.

A Unanimous Choice

Nitin Nabin was elected unopposed, with his candidature receiving strong backing from the party’s senior leadership, including Prime Minister Modi. His appointment reflects the BJP’s focus on nurturing leaders with deep organisational roots and a proven track record in election management.

Political Background and Experience

Nitin Nabin is the son of late senior BJP leader and four-time Bihar Assembly legislator Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha. He entered active politics in 2006 following his father’s demise, reportedly after winning a by-election from Patna West. Over the years, he has steadily risen through the party ranks, earning a reputation as a disciplined leader with a “party-first” approach.

He previously served in the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government, handling key portfolios such as road construction and urban development, before stepping down from the state cabinet. His organisational credentials were further strengthened through his work in the BJP’s youth wing in Bihar and his role in managing critical electoral assignments in several states.

Notably, Nabin played a key role in the BJP’s successful campaign in Chhattisgarh, where the party returned to power by dislodging the Congress government.

With nearly two decades of political experience, Nitin Nabin now assumes leadership at a crucial juncture, as the BJP prepares for a series of electoral contests and seeks to reinforce its organisational framework nationwide.
