According to available information, the youth has been identified as Suraj Mahendra Shirke. He is accused of posting derogatory and obscene comments on Facebook and other social media platforms against MNS chief Raj Thackeray, Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray, and party leader Aditya Thackeray.
The posts reportedly contained abusive language and questioned the integrity of the political leadership, angering party workers who viewed the remarks as deeply offensive.
Sources said MNS sub-divisional president Kiran Nakashe and his associates received information that the youth was hiding in the Nalasopara area. Acting on this information, a group of party workers allegedly tracked him down, assaulted him, partially undressed him, and dragged him along the road for nearly 1.5 kilometres.
Political Reaction
Following the incident, Kiran Nakashe posted a statement on social media appearing to justify the assault. He stated that anyone using obscene language against leaders revered by party supporters would be made to face consequences, irrespective of their identity or background.
Tension and Concerns
The incident led to brief tension in the Nalasopara area, prompting increased police deployment to prevent further escalation. While the viral video continues to circulate widely on social media, it has also sparked debate over vigilantism, the limits of political intolerance, and the role of law enforcement in addressing alleged online abuse.
Authorities have not yet issued a detailed statement on possible legal action related to the assault, even as calls grow louder for accountability and adherence to the rule of law.
