Ireland: Two people have been hospitalised, one of them in critical condition, following a hit-and-run road traffic collision in County Cavan on Tuesday evening.
Gardaí and emergency services responded to the incident shortly after 6.45pm on the L1513 at Drumlark, Loreto Wood, near Cavan. The collision involved a vehicle and a pedestrian.
The female pedestrian, aged in her 20s, sustained injuries that are understood to be non-life-threatening and was transported to Cavan General Hospital for treatment.
The male driver of the vehicle left the scene on foot. A male passenger, also aged in his 20s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Cavan General Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have been notified and are expected to conduct a technical examination of the scene. The road has been closed in both directions, with local diversions put in place to facilitate the investigation.
In a statement, a Garda spokesperson confirmed that investigations are ongoing and appealed for witnesses to come forward.
“Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a hit-and-run single-vehicle road traffic collision that occurred on the L1513 Drumlark, Loreto Wood, Co. Cavan on Tuesday, 17 February,” the spokesperson said.
Authorities have urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who was in the area between 6.30pm and 7pm and may have relevant camera footage—including dash-cam recordings—to make it available to investigating officers.
