India’s Interests Will Be Safeguarded in US Trade Deals, Says Piyush Goyal at Rising Bharat Summit 2026

New Delhi: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has asserted that India’s national interests will remain fully protected in all trade engagements with the United States, amid evolving global trade dynamics.

Speaking at the ‘News18 Rising Bharat Summit 2026’ held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, the minister noted that recent developments — including a significant ruling by the Supreme Court of the United States — could reshape the legal underpinnings of American trade policy, particularly in the context of tariff measures introduced during President Donald Trump’s second term.

Adapting to a Changing Trade Landscape

Mr. Goyal observed that the US Supreme Court’s decision, which questioned aspects of the legal foundation of tariff policies, may influence the structure of future trade arrangements.

“The United States is one of India’s most important trading partners. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation. As circumstances change, we will recalibrate agreements accordingly,” he said.

He emphasised that the government would ensure that key Indian sectors — including agriculture, handicrafts, gems and jewellery, and pharmaceuticals — continue to secure competitive access to global markets.

India’s Expanding Global Role

Highlighting India’s broader economic trajectory, Mr. Goyal credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with strengthening the country’s economic foundations and positioning India as a leading voice of the Global South.

He noted that India now engages with developed economies from a position of confidence and strategic clarity. Expressing optimism about export performance, the minister projected significant gains in the current fiscal year, underlining the government’s focus on expanding trade opportunities while safeguarding domestic priorities.

Rising Bharat Summit 2026

The two-day summit, held on February 27 and 28 under the theme “Strength Within,” brings together policymakers, industry leaders, and thought leaders to deliberate on governance, economic ambition, and strategic direction in a rapidly shifting global order.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to deliver the keynote address, outlining India’s future development roadmap and its strategic priorities on the world stage.

The 2026 edition of the summit seeks to celebrate the inherent strength of every citizen while reinforcing India’s commitment to innovation, democratic values, and expanding global leadership.
