KOCHI – The Kochi City Police have registered a case against a 50-year-old resident of Palarivattom following a harrowing complaint of sexual exploitation, forced abortion, and financial fraud filed by a 34-year-old woman.
The victim, an Ernakulam native, approached the authorities detailing a two-year ordeal involving breach of promise, physical abuse, and extortion. While the First Information Report (FIR) has been filed, the suspect remains at large.
Allegations of Abuse and Coercion
According to the police complaint, the victim first met the accused in 2022 through a professional event management project. What began as a working relationship allegedly transitioned into a personal one after the 50-year-old suspect proposed marriage. The victim claims that under this pretext, she was subjected to repeated sexual assault between 2024 and January 2026 at various locations, including apartments in Marine Drive and Silver Sand Island, Vyttila.
The victim further alleges a calculated campaign of blackmail and coercion. The accused reportedly recorded their encounters on his mobile phone, using the footage as leverage to ensure her silence by threatening to leak the clips online. The situation escalated when the victim discovered she was pregnant, at which point the suspect allegedly forced her to undergo an abortion. Furthermore, the woman stated she was left mentally devastated after the accused issued direct threats against the lives of both her and her daughter.
In addition to the physical and emotional abuse, the investigation is looking into significant claims of financial exploitation. The complainant alleges that the suspect used the promise of their impending marriage to misappropriate over 10 sovereigns of gold jewelry and approximately ₹15 lakhs in cash. When the victim eventually demanded the return of these assets, the suspect reportedly refused and responded with further threats of violence.
Financial Fraud and Extortion
Beyond the physical and emotional abuse, the victim alleges that the accused exploited her financially by misappropriating substantial assets under the guise of their impending marriage. According to the complaint, the 50-year-old suspect took possession of over 10 sovereigns of gold jewelry and approximately ₹15 lakhs in cash. When the victim eventually requested the return of her property and money, the accused reportedly refused to comply and instead responded with further threats and intimidation.
Current Status of Investigation
Kochi City Police confirmed that the victim has submitted substantial evidence alongside her formal statement. Following the registration of the case, the suspect—who is active in the event management sector—has reportedly gone into hiding.
"A comprehensive investigation is underway. We have recorded the victim's statement and are currently tracking the suspect's location. An arrest is expected shortly," a senior police official stated.
