BENGALURU: The owner of a prominent private residential school in Devanahalli has been arrested for the alleged sexual assault of an eighth-grade student. Following the incident, the Bengaluru police also took the owner’s wife, Shailaja, and the school principal into custody for their roles in allegedly attempting to conceal the crime and shield the perpetrator.
According to the police complaint, the owner, identified as Dhananjay, trespassed into the girls' dormitory at night in an intoxicated state and assaulted the student. The matter came to light after the victim informed her parents, who subsequently approached the authorities.
The police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Investigators stated that the owner’s wife and the principal were booked for criminal conspiracy and suppressing evidence, as they allegedly tried to prevent the information from leaking out.
With approximately 600 students enrolled in the residential facility, the police have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine if other students have faced similar abuse. The accused were produced before the court and have been remanded to judicial custody.
