Punjab: A property dealer was shot dead in a brazen daylight attack in Sector 9 of Chandigarh on Wednesday, police officials said.
The victim, identified as Charanpreet Singh, had arrived at a gym in the upscale market area when he was targeted by two unidentified assailants. The attackers, who arrived on a motorcycle, approached Singh’s vehicle and opened fire at close range.
According to preliminary reports, one of the assailants—wearing a helmet and a red T-shirt—fired multiple rounds at Singh as he stepped out of his black SUV. A video circulating online purportedly shows the attacker firing repeatedly before fleeing the scene.
Singh, a resident of Mullanpur in Mohali district, sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Investigation Underway
The assailants fled on a motorcycle bearing a Chandigarh registration number. Police have since cordoned off the area, and a forensic team has collected evidence from the scene.
Authorities are currently examining CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify and trace the suspects. A high alert has been issued across the city following the incident.
Possible Gang Angle
In a related development, an unverified social media post surfaced in which gangster Lucky Patial purportedly claimed responsibility for the हत्या, alleging that Singh had been sharing information about the gang with rival groups. Police have not yet confirmed the authenticity of this claim.
Rising Concerns Over Public Safety
The incident marks the second firing case reported in Chandigarh within 24 hours. On Tuesday, unidentified assailants opened fire at a student leader near the Department of Botany at Panjab University. The individual escaped unhurt.
The back-to-back incidents have raised concerns over public safety in the city, prompting intensified security measures and ongoing investigations by law enforcement agencies.
