However, the ruling administration has laid down a strict condition for the Opposition before moving forward.
Government Seeks Peaceful Assurance
Speaking on the developments, Rijiju emphasized that while the government has no hesitation in bringing the Home Minister to the forefront to answer questions regarding the student protest crackdowns, the Opposition must guarantee disciplined and orderly proceedings.
"The government has made it clear that we are ready for a detailed discussion... But the Opposition has to assure that they will take part in the debate peacefully, will not disrupt proceedings, will listen to the reply of the Home Minister, and will not run away after creating turmoil and sloganeering," Rijiju stated.
Context of the Standoff
The Monsoon Session of Parliament has witnessed persistent disruptions, with opposition parties—led by the INDIA bloc—pressing aggressively for accountability over systemic issues, paper leaks, and heavy-handed police measures against student demonstrators. Earlier friction peaked when opposition leaders repeatedly targeted the government over the
Home Minister's presence in the House. With the government now calling for a structured debate, the onus falls on opposition floor leaders to accept the terms for a peaceful parliamentary discourse, setting the stage for a high-stakes showdown in the Lok Sabha.
