Bengaluru: A 19-year-old college student has alleged that she was gang-raped after being forcibly administered a tablet at a private villa in north Bengaluru, triggering a widening investigation that has led to multiple arrests and a counter-complaint of extortion.
The survivor lodged her complaint at the Amruthahalli Police Station on February 22, alleging that the incident occurred in the early hours of February 15 at a villa in Jakkur. Police have since arrested five individuals — Nabeel, Dixon, Anirudh, Mohith and Avan — in connection with the case. Among them, Anirudh is reported to be the son of a councillor from Davanagere. The villa where the alleged assault took place is said to be owned by a senior IPS officer.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the student, a first-year degree candidate at a city college, came into contact with one of the accused through Instagram in January 2026. The two reportedly met on a few occasions at a café in Koramangala and remained in regular communication via phone and social media.
On the night of February 14, after attending college and later going out for dinner with a friend, she was allegedly invited to a party at a villa in Jakkur. She reached the location around 1.15 am along with her friend, where two of the accused were present.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that the accused forcibly put a pink-coloured tablet into her mouth. Within minutes, she said she felt dizzy, experienced sweating and blurred vision, and eventually lost consciousness. She further stated that upon regaining partial consciousness inside a room, one of the men was touching her inappropriately. Despite her resistance, both men allegedly sexually assaulted her. She also claimed that she was locked inside the room and, the following day, dropped near a mall and threatened with dire consequences if she reported the matter.
Police confirmed that a case has been registered under Sections 64 (rape), 70(1) (gang rape), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigators stated that Anirudh, identified as a prime accused, had booked the villa where the incident allegedly occurred. He was taken into custody following detailed interrogation.
Adding complexity to the case, a separate complaint was filed a day earlier at the Malleshwaram Police Station by two of the accused, alleging that the woman and a male acquaintance attempted to extort ₹10 lakh by threatening to release certain video clips. A senior police officer said both the sexual assault allegations and the extortion complaint are under investigation, and appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings.
As the probe intensified, police sources indicated that nearly 19 other young women have approached authorities with similar allegations, claiming they were targeted through social media using modelling offers, photoshoot opportunities and party invitations. Investigators are examining whether the accused operated as part of a broader network that lured college students, built trust through meetings at cafés and pubs, and later took them to private villas where assaults were allegedly recorded and used for intimidation.
The complainant sought medical treatment at a city hospital on February 17 and approached the police after informing her brother, citing fear due to the alleged threats as the reason for the delay in filing the complaint.
Police have listed seven individuals as witnesses in the case. Officials said the investigation remains ongoing, and further arrests or charges may follow as evidence is examined and statements are recorded.
