Delhi: Bike Taxi Driver Arrested for Allegedly Harassing Woman Passenger in Rohini

Delhi: A bike taxi driver has been arrested in Delhi after a woman passenger accused him of harassment during a ride booked through a mobile application in the Rohini area.

According to police, the incident occurred on March 12 when the woman booked a bike taxi from Rohini Sector 15 to Pitampura. The ride reportedly began normally but soon took an unsettling turn.

In her complaint, the woman told police that she was seated on the rear seat of the motorcycle when the driver allegedly began behaving inappropriately as they approached the dividing road near Sector 13 on KNK Marg.

The passenger said she objected to the driver’s conduct, but he allegedly threatened her and warned her not to raise her voice or create a disturbance.

The driver later dropped her near the FU Block Pitampura. Following the incident, the woman immediately approached the police and filed a formal complaint.

Based on her statement, a case was registered on March 14 at KNK Marg Police Station under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 74 (assault or criminal force intended to outrage a woman’s modesty), Section 79 (words, gestures, or acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and Section 351(3) (criminal intimidation).

During the investigation, police identified the accused as Sachin, a 34-year-old resident of Badli village. He was subsequently arrested, and the motorcycle used during the incident was seized.

Police said the accused had studied up to the tenth grade and had been working as an app-based bike taxi driver for about a year.

Investigators also found that he had previously been involved in a criminal case. Records showed that a dowry death case had been registered against him in 2011 at Samaypur Badli Police Station.

The accused was produced before a court and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.

In her statement, the complainant also said the driver had increased the speed of the motorcycle shortly after the ride began. When she asked him to slow down, he allegedly responded arrogantly, claiming he was riding at only 20 km per hour and challenging her to check the speed herself.

Police said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
