A murder accused identified as Asif, also known as “Bam,” was injured in a police encounter near Bhopal while being transported into the city, officials said.
According to police, Asif had been arrested in connection with a recent murder case and was being brought to Bhopal for further questioning. During transit, near the Ratibad area, he allegedly attempted to escape from police custody. Officers intervened to stop him, but when he refused to comply, they opened fire to bring the situation under control.
A bullet struck Asif in the leg, causing him to collapse at the scene. He was immediately taken into custody and shifted to Hamidia Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Police confirmed that Asif is a key आरोपी in a recent murder that took place in the Ashoka Garden area. According to investigators, the incident occurred on Sunday night following a minor altercation, during which Asif, along with two associates, allegedly stabbed a 35-year-old tea vendor to death. The victim died on the spot, triggering tension in the locality.
Following the incident, police launched a search operation and subsequently apprehended Asif. He was being transported to Bhopal for further interrogation when the alleged escape attempt occurred.
Authorities have registered serious charges against the accused, including murder, and are also probing his criminal background. Security has been heightened in the area following the encounter, and efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the other suspects involved in the case.
